Where will my child play at?
All league games will be played at Chautauqua Park, Panther Creek and Whitesville Parks. All practices will be held at Yellow Creek Park, Panther Creek field #4 and #5 or any place a coach may wish.
Which league will my child be in?
There will be two divisions. A 13-14 yr old Prep. league, a 13-16 league. Each division will play two halves if possible in the 13-14 prep. league. The 13-16 will play one halve due to school sports. 12 Year olds can play in the prep league only. 16 year olds may now play in the 13-16 league. Any 13 or 14 year old not selected for the 13-16 league will play in the 13-14 prep league. A 13 year old player selected for the 13-16 league may chose to play both 13-14prep and 13-16 league. They're determined at tryouts. At anytime during the season a 13 or 14-year-old player in the prep league may be brought up to the 13-16 leagues. *13-14 prep league is designed for all 13 year olds to get accustomed to longer distances against players their own age and the 14 year olds to get more playing time in a more suitable league to improve their skills. 13-16 league is designed for a more competitve league for players that are more suitable for that level of play.
Do I have to buy any equipment?
Players only need a baseball glove/bat. A protective cup is highly recommended, as are shoes with cleats, plastic or steel. The league supplies batting helmets, and catcher's gear. Each team gets their own shirts and hats. The player is responsible for pants (with belt loops) and belt and socks.
Does the league carry insurance?
The league carries accidental and liability insurance as required by Babe Ruth League Baseball. See a director for more information pertaining to this. *16 year olds play at thier own risk (no insurance) from league on 16 year olds. (waiver signed).
Does my child have to attend tryouts?
While tryout participation is strongly suggested, we have several players who play on the local high school teams and tryouts have to be held when some families are on vacation. Therefore, if you can't attend tryouts, call one of the officers and explain why. If the player does not attend tryouts his name will be put into a players pool unless the player is excused.
How much will my child get to play?
Owensboro Daviess County Babe Ruth League has a mandatory playing time 0f one at bat and 3 consecutive outs on defense in the 13-14 prep league. In any division it is highly recommended to play each player as much as possible. The two leagues divisions that have been set up should give each player quality playing time.
Can I request or refuse a certain league or coach?
If you or your child had a bad experience with a certain manager or coach you may request that he not be on that individuals team by writing your request in on your registration form and that coach will be notified. But this in no way ensures that he or she will not be on that team. We cannot and will not change any coach's pick during the draft procedure.
Will there be a post- season tournament?
Yes. Each division will have it's own double elimination tournament pending time left in the season due to rain -outs. This could leave the door open for a single elimination tournament if there are to many rain- outs.
How is All Star Teams Selected?
All managers vote on a written ballot. No matter how good the rules, selection of All Star teams is highly subjective, and is sometimes the source of hard feelings. To accurately pick the best 15 players in a league of 300 is impossible. One must only look to the major leagues and the controversy there each year to see how difficult the process is. If your child feels he should have been selected and was not, please explain to him the difficulty of the job of selecting a team, and that perhaps next season his turn will come. This past season there were 6 different all-stars on the 14 year- old team than were on the previous years 13-year-old team, so if you don't make it, don't get your chin down, because next year might be your year.
Can my child play both high school sports and Babe Ruth?
Yes, the players generally do play both high school and Babe Ruth League. The high school season is over with by the time we start the 13-16 league season. The 13-14 prep league does start a week earlier but we try our best not to conflict with the game dates for the high school freshman teams.
